Anita Boabeng is the child we sponsor through Compassion International. Brian and I together chose her out of the numerous children needing sponsors based solely on the above picture. We were both drawn to the fact that she seems to think she's so tough, and yet, she looks so innocent at the same time. We enjoy receiving letters from her, and in exchange, I enjoy digging through the dollar bins at Target to find little trinkets to send her. The customs regulations are somewhat restrictive, so I find myself sending a lot of stickers and tiny notepads. (The one time I tried to mail a pair of socks, it was confiscated for being in violation of the policy.)
When we began the sponsorship, we were told not to expect regular correspondence from her, but it seems like Anita is smart enough to figure out that the more she writes us, the more frequently we'll be reminded to send something to her! We've probably received close to 100 letters from her to date! Recently, Anita has begun to fully claim her position as our adopted child. She refers to herself as our adopted daughter, and, in every letter, she asks how her baby brother Landry is doing. It's so touching to me that this little girl who we'll probably never meet in person considers herself a part of our family! In her last letter to us, she closed by saying, "May the Lord bless you and protect you from the enemies, especially my baby brother Landry." Enough to make my heart melt!
